Following the announcement that York City’s FA Trophy Semi Final first leg game against Torquay United had been brought forward 24 hours to Friday 7th March, Minster Northallerton was inundated with calls from angry fans who had already purchased their train tickets – yet were unable to use them because of the late fixture change.
After negotiations with CrossCountry, Minster Northallerton’s David Ward struck a deal with the rail company, which allows City fans to use their ticket on the Friday instead, at no extra cost.
Those who had already bought train tickets for the Saturday, will be able to travel on Friday’s 1044 CrossCountry York to Newton Abbot service. CrossCountry has reserved a number of seats in Coach D of the train for City supporters. At Newton Abbot, they will be able to change to First Great Western’s 1627 service to Torquay, which costs £2.90 one way. On the Saturday, fans returning home can use their tickets on the 1011 Torquay – York CrossCountry service.
Minster Northallerton’s York City reporter, David Ward said: “This is great news for City fans. The prospect of losing out on more money on the top of an already-expensive trip was disappointing. But now, thanks to CrossCountry’s goodwill gesture and the hard work of the Minster Northallerton team, supporters will be able to make the long trip to Torquay, at no extra cost.”
