Dead baby girl found in rubbish
A newborn baby girl was found lying dead in rubbish at a recycling plant, police have said.
A worker at the centre in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, found the body among waste waiting to be recycled at about 7.30am on Wednesday.
Police said a post-mortem examination proved "inconclusive" and the infant's exact age is still unknown.
Detective Inspector Jim McCrorie appealed for the child's mother to come forward, saying: "Our thoughts have turned to the mother of this baby and we are concerned that she may need some help.
"We are urging her to go to her local hospital to get the attention she may need.
"It may be that she wants to speak to officers who are looking into the baby's death."
Det Insp McCrorie said the recycling plant takes waste from around the Peterborough area and throughout the Midlands.
He said it was not known where the baby was from, or how long it had lain undiscovered.
Anyone with information is asked to call Cambridgeshire police on 0845 456 4564 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
